- Concussion Substitutes: Teams are now permitted to replace an injured player by a head hit, without adding up regular substitutions.
- Indian Assistant Coach: Every team must have access to an Indian coach guiding their main coach, hence allowing Indian coaches to get better.
- Appealing Red Cards: Teams can now state whenever a player is sent off unfairly, to make the game fairer.
- Foreign Player Requirement: The mandatory rule requiring an overseas AFC player member in the playing XI has been taken out. From this series onwards teams will not necessarily require playing with another Asian country player, allowing them to make wider choices in terms of team.
- New Teams: This season observed the introduction of the 13th team – Mohammedan SC who won the I-League will join the league.
- No Relegations: The All India Football Federation (AIFF), has decided to exclude the existing relegations this season.
